About

« Vadrouilleur du web, principalement alimenté par la nostalgie. J'aime vagabonder dans les méandres tentaculaires d'internet. »

↑ That’s French. It stands for “Web Wanderer, primarily fueled by nostalgia. I enjoy wandering through the sprawling mazes of the internet.” Yeah.

Hi, and thank you for stopping by. I’m Thomas. I live in a countryside part of France (after living most of my life in a rurban area, then in a big city). I was born in the early 80s (exactly 15 947 days ago), part of a generation some call xennials. I’ve been a Web Wanderer since the end of the 90s.

I love personal websites and blogs, old-school forums (I’ve been active on a private one for more than 20 years), retrogaming, coffee (V60, Aeropress and French Press are my favorite brewing methods), music (both to listen and to play), reading books, quiet places, being in my own bubble (though sometimes I have to step out of it).

Nostalgia drives a lot of what I do. I often find myself diving into forgotten corners of the web and getting lost in small, sometimes hidden, websites. I love web serendipity.

I mainly write in English, which is not my native language, but there are a few articles in French here and there (I use the French flag as a tag to mark them: 🇫🇷).

Where to explore on my site?

  • The homepage lists all my blog posts in reverse chronological order of publication. You can subscribe to my posts via RSS.
  • Now – What I’m currently (more or less) up to.
  • Bookshelf – A simple visual archive of books I’ve read and I’m currently reading.
  • Moments – Photos that capture small, everyday moments. My kinda personal Instagram, without the noise
  • Blogroll – A curated collection of blogs, websites, newsletters and writings I enjoy and recommend.
  • Shoebox – A place where I keep and collect random things I’ve made: projects, drafts, creations, experiments…
  • Links & Notes – A subsection of my website where I share links I found interesting, and small notes that wouldn’t need a regular blogpost (a bit like a microblog).
  • Uses – Here I list gear, software, tools I use regularly.
  • Colophon – Details about this website (how it’s made, the technical setup, the tools…)

Cafélog?

Cafélog is a word that combines two things I love:

  • café (the French word), because I love coffee. I enjoy not just a good cup of black coffee while writing, reading, working, chatting (or whatever I’m doing), but also the aesthetics, the rituals, and the different brewing methods.
  • log, as in a web log, a blog; the act of journaling through writing.
