5 albums
“Introduce yourself with five albums that have shaped you.”, writes Martin.
Here’s my pick, by release year:
- Guns N’ Roses – Appetite for Destruction (1987)
- Megadeth – Rust in Peace (1990)
- Nirvana – Nevermind (1991)
- AC/DC – Live: 2 CD Collector’s Edition (1992)
- The Offspring – Smash (1994)
It’s basically a shortlist of the 12 albums that defined my teenage years, an article in which I wrote a few words about them. See also: One album for every year of my life.

Note: I hesitated to include the AC/DC Live album, which is not really an album in the strict “studio album” sense. But I had listened to this CD and watched the VHS so many times during my teenage years, and it had so much influence on me, that it had to be on the list. I also hesitated to include another album, but I would have had to remove one from my selection. That excluded album is more recent (2009), and those 5 albums definitely grew up with me.
