Answering Some Randomly Generated Questions

Answering Some Randomly Generated Questions

There, a post written in English. Except for my fifth ”Framing Japan” series article I wrote back in May, I haven’t written anything in English since October 2024 (which was also a “Framing Japan” series article, the fourth one). Anyway, I was kind of randomly browsing the numerous blogs I have bookmarked, reading a few pieces here and there, when I stumbled upon this type of ”Questions” article, written by Cliff from Seers of Souls.

I’ve never posted this kind of meta/question challenge post, but it’s a great way to think and to write, when you don’t have any topic to write about, or rather, like me, when you don’t feel inspired or in the mood to tackle one of the many ideas or drafts that lay in your brain or in your notes.

Anyway, let’s get started. I picked the same questions as Cliff, because I’m not on Mastodon and I didn’t really want to look over many questions to choose from and think about which one I would feel more comfortable answering.

What Color Always Makes You Feel Happy, And Why?

My favorite color is blue, especially sky blue. I find this color comforting and it gives me positive feelings. A day that starts with a bright blue sky always feels more promising than a gloomy grey day (but ironically, I also find autumn’s gloomy days comforting). Another color that kind of soothes me is light purple.

If You Could Speak Any Language Fluently, What Would It Be?

It would be Japanese. I can speak the language, but I’m kind of stuck between a basic and an intermediate level. I can speak relatively well, I think I can hold a daily conversation, but at the same time time it’s often hard to understand what I’m being told. I lack vocabulary and grammar. And practice, of course. I think Japanese is a beautiful, fun and fascinating language, and I love how it sounds.

Describe The Best Sandwich You’ve Ever Had

When I think about sandwiches, I immediately think of a specific period of my life, when I was a kid. During summer holidays, when my friends and I would spend the day outside, we would usually each toss a sandwich in our backpack, among other things to spend the day with. And off we’d go on our bicycles.

My sandwich of choice (which was not made by myself but rather by my mother), was, as I remember it, composed of: two slices of half a baguette, a slim layer of butter, salad, ham and cheese such as Gouda, Emmental, Comté or Gruyère, slices of tomatoes, and slices of gherkins.

I looked online and it seems to partly match the description of the Dagobert sandwich.

These days, if I have to make a sandwich, I usually go by this recipe, which I find both delicious and comforting.

I asked ChatGPT to make an image based on the description I wrote above. The result is quite funny, too gorgeous with that much of ham, but I think it gives a good idea of what the sandwich would look like — except it was way more simple.

My favorite sandwich, sort of.

What’s One Tiny Ritual That Makes Your Day Better?

Easy answer. With no doubt and no need to think about a proper answer: it’s the few minutes of quietness I allow myself almost each morning, to brew coffee. Most of the time, I will make half a liter of coffee with a Hario V60. That’s how I like my coffee best: filter, black, no sugar. Sometimes I would use a French Press, or an Aeropress if I just want to brew a single cup. I love coffee.

Final Thoughts

Well, for a first post of this type, that was fun to do! The thinking, the writing, the searching for and making of illustrations… It was interesting to dig into my mind to try to go a bit deeper for each answer, instead of simply replying with a single word. I could just have reply something like: Purple, Japanese, Dagobert, Coffee. But it would have been no fun for me to do and to write, and boring to read.

I know there are other series of posts like that, I read a bunch of them here and there. So maybe (probably?) I will pick among them later and will answer other questions, who knows.
